Jul 31 2026
Every day, we get questions from customers regarding a variety of things. Questions about parts, warranties, and core returns aren’t uncommon, and Go Powertrain is happy to answer those questions so our customers have the peace-of-mind they deserve.
We took several recent questions we received from customers and asked our Director of Business Intelligence, Mike Reynolds, to answer them. Mike has been with the team for 3 years, and has over 15 years of experience in aftermarket parts sales.

Go Powertrain Q&A with Mike
Q: How can a repair shop confirm that a replacement engine or transmission is the correct fit for a customer’s vehicle?
A: The best way is always with the VIN, simply due to the quality and width of tools available both through the website and through the inside team to final-mile the decode.
Q: When should a shop quote a premium remanufactured, value remanufactured, or certified used engine or transmission to a customer?
A: It all depends on the customer's budget and intentions. If they plan on keeping the vehicle as long as possible, then the premium option is usually the best. However, if the customer is budget minded, or planning on trading in the vehicle soon, our value options are sometimes the best for the end user. Our used program is also a fantastic option for customers looking for parts not currently being remanufactured, or where new units are prohibitively expensive.
Q: How do core charges, core pickup, freight, delivery times, and return deadlines work when a repair shop orders an engine or transmission?
A: One benefit of working with GPT is the robust core program behind every purchase. All units come with 30 days of core deferment, and core pickup is always fast and free! Overwhelmingly shops do not ever pay a shipping charge in working with GPT at all, with the most common one being a liftgate surcharge if needed.
Q: Does a replacement transmission come programmed, or will the shop need to perform a relearn, flash, or TCM programming after installation?
A: Our transmissions do require programming by the repair facility. Due to OEMs coming up with improved flashes/programming almost daily, this ensures that the latest calibrations are always used.
Q: How can a repair shop quickly source the correct engine or transmission when the original unit is backordered or unavailable?
A: Browse the website or contact us directly! We're nearly backorder proof.
Q: What factors affect engine and transmission availability, lead times, and shipping times for repair shops?
A: Nearly anything. From Import time related items such as our brand new (Not reman) Kia/Hyundai Engine program, to USDM national parts shortages, nearly anything can throw a wrench into the works. That is why we stock our high need items in both Alabama and Virginia.
We hope these answered some of the questions you have, and feel free to reach out to Go Powertrain with any other questions you may have. If you're ready for a quote, have the VIN ready and reach out to our sales team to find the part you need at industry-leading prices!
