What to Expect From a Go Powertrain Warranty Claim: A Clear, Real-World Guide
Aug 28 2026
When you invest in a replacement engine, transmission, or other powertrain component, knowing there is warranty protection behind it matters. Just as important is understanding what happens if you ever need to use that warranty.
At Go Powertrain, our goal is to make the warranty process as straightforward as possible. Our warranty team works with vehicle owners and repair facilities to understand the concern, complete the necessary diagnosis, and determine the appropriate next step.
A warranty claim is still a process. Diagnosis, documentation, communication, shipping, and, in some cases, inspection of a defective component may all be required before a claim can be completed.
Understanding those steps ahead of time can eliminate surprises and help everyone involved move toward a resolution more efficiently.
What Does the Go Powertrain Warranty Process Look Like?
Every warranty claim is different, but most follow the same general process:
-
Submit a warranty claim with information about the vehicle, product, and concern.
-
Complete any testing or diagnostics requested by the Go Powertrain warranty team.
-
Our warranty team reviews the findings and determines the appropriate path forward.
-
If parts, repair, or a replacement unit are needed, the next steps are coordinated.
-
Required documentation and product returns are completed.
-
Eligible reimbursement is processed according to the warranty coverage purchased with the unit.
Here is a closer look at what customers and repair facilities should expect throughout that process.
Your Warranty Coverage Depends on the Product You Purchased
Go Powertrain offers different warranty levels across our remanufactured and certified used powertrain products.
Depending on the product, application, and warranty purchased, coverage may include benefits such as nationwide parts and labor protection, unlimited-mileage coverage, different labor reimbursement levels, or other benefits.
Because coverage can vary, your invoice and warranty documentation are important.
Before assuming something is or is not covered, review the warranty attached to your specific unit or contact Go Powertrain with questions.
It is also important to understand that parts-and-labor coverage does not necessarily mean every expense associated with a repair is reimbursed at a repair facility's normal retail rate. Labor reimbursement, diagnostic reimbursement, and other benefits are based on the coverage purchased with the unit.
Step 1: Start With a Warranty Claim
If you experience a problem with a Go Powertrain product, the first step is to submit a warranty claim.
Go Powertrain provides claim forms for engines, automatic and manual transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, and cylinder heads. Customers with an existing claim can also follow up through our existing-claim process.
Having accurate information available can help the warranty team review the concern more efficiently. Depending on the claim, you may be asked to provide:
-
Your invoice or claim number
-
VIN
-
Year, make, and model
-
Part or serial number
-
Installation mileage
-
Current vehicle location
-
Repair facility information
-
Details about the symptoms or concern
Registering your Go Powertrain product after installation can also help ensure important vehicle and product information is already on file if technical or warranty assistance is needed later.
Step 2: Expect Diagnosis Before a Resolution
One of the most common questions we receive is:
“Do you cover diagnostic time?”
Yes, Go Powertrain covers approved diagnostic time requested by our warranty department and performed by the repair facility.
Approved diagnostic time is paid at the labor rate purchased with the unit.
There is an important distinction, however, between diagnostic labor and information that may simply be required to document the claim.
For example, taking pictures and scanning a vehicle for diagnostic trouble codes do not count as diagnostic time. While photos and code scans may be requested as part of the claim process, completing those items does not qualify as reimbursable diagnostic labor.
Our warranty department may also request specific testing to determine whether the concern is related to the replacement unit, the installation, programming, another vehicle system, or another cause.
Following the testing requested by the warranty team is important because it helps identify the actual source of the problem and determine the appropriate solution.
For that reason, customers and repair facilities should contact Go Powertrain before performing extensive diagnostic work with the expectation that all diagnostic charges will automatically be reimbursed.
Step 3: We Determine the Best Path Forward
Once the requested information and diagnostic results are available, our warranty team can evaluate the claim and determine the appropriate next step.
Not every warranty concern requires a complete replacement unit.
Depending on the findings, the resolution may involve additional testing, a repair, replacement parts, or a replacement unit.
When a replacement unit is required, Go Powertrain prioritizes warranty replacements over new builds.
Customers should still plan for a realistic shipping timeline.
Because engines and transmissions are large freight shipments, even an in-stock replacement requires time to process and transport. Typical shipping may take approximately 2–7 business days depending on stock, along with factors such as shipping origin, destination, and carrier conditions.
If a replacement unit needs to be built, additional time may be required.
Our goal is to keep the customer and repair facility informed about the next steps so everyone understands what is happening as the claim moves forward.
How Is Labor Reimbursement Calculated?
Another common question is:
“What labor guide does Go Powertrain use?”
Go Powertrain bases warranty labor time on Mitchell 1 labor times.
The hourly reimbursement rate is based on the labor coverage purchased with the unit. Different warranty options may include different reimbursement levels, so the amount reimbursed through a warranty claim may differ from a repair facility's normal posted labor rate.
The labor rate purchased with the unit also applies to approved diagnostic time requested by the Go Powertrain warranty department.
This is why it is important to understand the coverage attached to your specific product before repairs are completed.
If there is ever a question about eligible labor or diagnostic reimbursement, contact our warranty department before authorizing additional work.
When Does Warranty Reimbursement Happen?
Warranty reimbursement may require several steps after a claim resolution has been determined.
For most claims, Go Powertrain needs the required documentation on file and the defective unit or component moving through the return and inspection process before final reimbursement can be completed.
Once the required documentation, return, and inspection requirements have been satisfied, eligible reimbursement can be processed according to the terms of the warranty.
Most claims can be paid by credit card when no processing fees are involved, or payment can be mailed by check.
Keeping documentation organized and making defective products or components available for return can help prevent unnecessary delays during this part of the process.
Does a Replacement Unit Restart the Warranty?
No.
Receiving a replacement unit does not restart the original warranty period.
If a unit is replaced during an existing warranty, coverage continues according to the original warranty's start and end dates.
The replacement does not create an entirely new warranty term. Instead, the remaining coverage from the original warranty continues to apply.
Understanding this before a warranty claim occurs can help prevent confusion if a replacement is ever required.
What if the Vehicle Is Away From the Original Repair Shop?
Go Powertrain warranty coverage is designed to provide nationwide protection, subject to the terms of the applicable warranty.
If a vehicle experiences a covered concern while away from the original installer or the owner's home area, the vehicle owner is responsible for locating a licensed repair facility that is willing to diagnose and perform the warranty repair.
The Go Powertrain warranty department does not recommend or select repair facilities on behalf of vehicle owners.
Once the vehicle owner has selected a repair facility, the shop should contact Go Powertrain so our warranty team can communicate any required testing, review the findings, and determine the appropriate next steps for the claim.
This allows the warranty process to continue even when the vehicle is no longer near the original installer, while ensuring that the vehicle owner remains responsible for selecting the repair facility they want to use.
How Can You Help Your Warranty Claim Move Faster?
A few simple steps can make the warranty process easier for everyone involved:
-
Keep your documentation. Save your original invoice, warranty information, VIN, installation mileage, part number, and serial number.
-
Contact the warranty team when a concern develops. Early communication allows our team to determine what information or testing may be needed.
-
Complete the diagnostics requested by Go Powertrain. Approved diagnostic labor requested by our warranty department is reimbursed according to the labor rate purchased with the unit.
-
Understand the difference between diagnosis and documentation. Taking pictures and scanning for codes may be required, but those activities do not count as diagnostic time.
-
Keep defective components available. Parts or units may need to be returned and inspected as part of the warranty process.
-
Take care of core requirements. Applicable cores must be returned or purchased to maintain warranty coverage.
-
Stay in communication. If you already have an open claim, use our existing-claim process for questions and updates.
-
If you are away from your home area, locate a licensed repair facility. Go Powertrain does not select or recommend a shop for the vehicle owner.
The Goal: A Warranty Process You Can Understand
Nobody wants to experience a warranty issue. When one does happen, our goal is to help identify the problem, determine the appropriate solution, and move the claim through the process as efficiently as possible.
That process requires cooperation between Go Powertrain, the vehicle owner, and the repair facility.
Diagnostics may be necessary. Documentation matters. Shipping takes time. Labor and diagnostic reimbursement are based on the coverage purchased with the unit. Defective components may need to be returned and inspected before reimbursement can be completed.
Knowing those expectations before a warranty claim happens can make the entire experience easier.
At Go Powertrain, we believe a strong warranty is about more than coverage on paper. It is about having a knowledgeable warranty team available to work through the issue, communicate what is needed, and help move the claim toward the appropriate resolution.
