Clean Your Shop Thoroughly and Routinely
- This means sanitizing the entire office and shop area multiple times a day.
- Don’t forget items like clipboards and pens that customers use or computer terminals, equipment, counters, entryways, and bathroom facilities.
- Provide customers disinfecting wipes and sanitizing gel in the waiting areas.
- Provide this for your employees as well.
- Maintaining a safe environment for everyone is key!
Sanitize Each Vehicle as They Arrive and Are Returned
- Make sure that the dashboard, gearstick, cup holder, and steering wheel get special attention. Don’t overlook all the knobs and armrests.
- When you have completed the work on a vehicle, repeat the interior sanitizing process again before delivery to the customer.
Provide Convenient Drop-Off and Pickup Services for Customers
- If you don’t already offer drop-off and/or pickup services, start offering a secure location where customers can complete their information online and drop their keys in a safe place.
- For customers who want to wait, have them wait in their vehicle until it is taken back for repairs.
- You can also offer them gloves to enter the waiting area and wait for their vehicle to be done.
- Have hand sanitizer on hand in visible locations.
- When you are finished with the vehicle, one idea is to starting doing virtual reviews of the services or repairs you provided. Skype, Facetime, or other online services are a good start.
- Start offering online payment so no one has to handle credit cards back and forth or cash exchanging hands.
Manage Your Team Members’ Health and Safety
- Encourage your team members to follow OSHA guidelines. Wear gloves, eye protection, and respirators.
- Make sure all shared equipment is sanitized multiple times a day.
- Evaluate team scheduling to allow non-essential employees to work from home, if possible.
